We are always on the look-out for new ad exciting products at retail around the world and assessing them for their potential in the Canadian market.
In recent visits in Europe and the United States we have found that coconut water based drinks to be an emerging new product category that has some interesting potential for this market.
Coconut water has antioxidant properties, is low-calorie and fat free. It also has lots of electrolytes and potassium making it a solid competitor to sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade.
In France, the first product that caught my eye was Nesfluid by Nestle, which combines coconut water, whey and other ingredients across six variants that are also targeted to certain segments of the population such as children and seniors.
As I write this post – a Revlon advertisement just played on the television promoting mineral makeup with coconut water.
I think I am on to something…
How long will it be until we see people drinking coconut water in Canada? Time will tell.
